Best Excursion: Extreme Adventures in Antigua

The only excursion you need while in Antigua is the Xtreme Adventures tour. It takes you around the island by speed boat. Snorkelling, a beach lunch and fun

When you go on vacation to an island that you’ve never been to, sometimes you want to spend the whole time just relaxing and other times you want to spend maybe one or two days exploring the island. Most people enjoy an excursion because it allows them to safely venture out into the culture of the island without having to be bored with the same thing every day at the resort.

When in Antigua, an excursion you don’t want to miss is the Xtreme Adventure tour. If you are the Sandals Grand Antigua resort, they will come and pick you up right from the beach. Now, before you go into sticker shock, the price per person is $190.

For this excursion, you are picked up by boat around 9:00 am. There are only about 20-23 people allowed on the boat, which allows for you to enjoy yourself more and not feel so “crammed in”. Once on board the speed boat, the tour operators will take anything you want to stay dry and put it in the cabin. Make sure to wear a swimming suit.

This excursion takes you around the entire island of Antigua by route of the water! You get to see everything on all sides, including the water turn from dark blue in the Atlantic Ocean to the aqua blue in the Caribbean. You will stop off and swim with sting-rays at Stingray City Marine Park and snorkel with some amazing fish. They will take you to see the ships at Nelson’s Dockyard. You will stop off at Green Island and enjoy a BBQ lunch while eating on the beach. They will take you to the Pillars of Hercules with its volcanic boulders to enjoy snorkeling. If you can hold your breath, diving deep to about 15 feet you can see and touch the anchor to a sunken ship!

Between these stops the tour guides will take you to an extremely secluded Rendezvous Bay where you will swim or lay on the beach which looks like something out of a magazine! The tour guides on this excursion will point out all the fascinating things to see, including Eric Clapton’s mansion on the side of one of the hills.

Make sure to bring the following to really get the most out of your excursion: a towel (although the wind from the speed boat will dry you off), an underwater camera (you can get from Wal-Mart or Target are sufficient and only cost about $10 USD), sunscreen (although you can sit under the canopy covered section of the boat, you will be out on the water all day and in the sun), and water shoes or flip flops.
